Maple Foods Launches Greenleaf, Set to Accelerate Growth of Plant-based Sector

Today, Greenleaf Foods, SPC, has announced its immediate launch as a food company dedicated to cultivating and advancing leadership in the plant-based market. Greenleaf presently hold category-leading brands, Field Roast Grain Meat Co. and Lightlife Foods, and plans to expand their portfolio of brands to offer further plant-based options to consumers. Greenleaf Foods was established in 2018 in Chicago, and is committed to shaping the future of plant-based foods. They will operate as a wholly-owned, independent subsidiary of Maple Leaf Foods, and say that they will be guided by a commitment to sustainability and the progress of the plant-based sector, which has seen a rise in sales of over 40% in the last year in the US alone. Greenleaf’s current portfolio includes two leading American plant-based protein brands: Lightlife Foods, the country’s number one brand of tempeh and number one plant-based hot dog, who expanded into Canada earlier in 2018; and Field Roast Grain Meat Co, producers of artisanal plant-based meats and cheeses found in thousands of retail stores and over 500 restaurant menus across the US. “We have established leading brands that are known for delicious, high-quality products and we are excited to build on and invest in that expertise to drive innovation and accelerate our growth,” says Dan Curtin, President of Greenleaf. “Leadership in the fast-growing plant-based protein market is fundamental to pursuing Maple Leaf Foods’ broader vision to be the most sustainable protein company on earth.”
