Plant Alternative, a London-based producer of 100% plant-based, restaurant quality Indian dishes called [SHICKEN], containing a realistic chick*n meat created from textured soya fibre, announces a retail agreement with Costco across the UK. American hot dog chain Wienerschnitzel announces the company is bringing Field Roast’s plant-based hot dogs to all 327 locations for a limited time.  The dogs can be made vegan by ordering without dairy-based cheese. Wagamama Launches Vegan Japanese-Inspired Fish and Chips for Veganuary

UK-based Asian fusion chain Wagamama has launched a new dish — plant-based Japanese-inspired fish and chips. The “fish” is made from battered soy, pea, and rice protein, in the style of the Japanese dish tempura. Accompanying the fish is roasted sweet potato and red onion, along with Japanese style mushy peas made with edamame beans and katsu curry sauce. Other garnishes include chilli, a lemon wedge, waga tartare with Japanese pickles, and Wagamama’s firecracker sauce. Handy Seafood, a 125-year-old seafood processor, is releasing the company’s first vegan entree.   The Plant-Based Crabless Cake is made from a proprietary blend of pea and wheat protein, and intended to recreate the texture of traditional crab cakes. Featuring a Maryland-style flavor combined with sweet peppers and onions, Handy states the entree-sized Crabless Cakes are made from responsibly sourced vegan ingredients and contain 10 grams of protein per serving.  Based in Crisfield, Maryland, Handy Seafood specializes in crab cakes and crab meat appetizers. Jinka Unveils World’s First Fully Prepared Plant-Based Calamari

Alt-seafood company Jinka recently revealed what may be the first pre-cooked plant-based calamari on the retail market.  Jinka quietly previewed the novel appetizer at a recent trade show, which appears to be sold as a perishable frozen product. According to the packaging, Jinka’s tempura-battered rings offer the same taste and texture as squid calamari, along with protein and omega-3 fatty acids.  The product can be eaten in snack or appetizer form, or as the centerpiece of a meal. While labeled Non-GMO, the ingredients have not yet been specified.
