Rowntree’s Launches Vegan Jelly Tots in a Range of Tropical Flavours

Nestlé-owned British confectionery brand Rowntree’s is adding to its range of vegan Jelly Tots with a new product — Tropical Tots. The sweets will come in five flavours — passion fruit, peach, pineapple, grapefruit, and mango. They will be available exclusively at Tesco from mid-February, with a recommended retail price of £1.59. Vegan products by Rowntree’s In recent years, Rowntree’s has been actively working to make its range more vegan-friendly. While Jelly Tots have never contained animal products, the brand’s Fruit Pastilles were previously unsuitable for vegans. But in 2020, Rowntree’s removed gelatine from the sweets in response to requests from consumers following vegan, vegetarian, and religious diets. The company says the new recipe has made the sweets slightly softer, without affecting their taste or …

Hugely Popular Mexican Snack Chocke-Obleas Rolls Out Across USA

Having noticed the snack’s enormous popularity and its potential in the USA, multinational food company Sigma Alimentos has launched amaranth-based snack Chocke Obleas (translates to Choco Wafers) into Hispanic grocers across San Jose, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and South Texas, with more US locations set to follow. The product is not intentionally listed or advertised as vegan, and appears to be an “accidentally vegan” product; indeed we had to double and triple-check but the website does state, in relatively small print, the word vegan on its ingredients page. Perhaps the brand is missing a trick here, or perhaps it is purposely not pushing for a vegan label in order to avoid being marginalised. It does, however, make clear that it is a keto-friendly snack. …

Research by Barry Callebaut Finds 74% of Younger Consumers Eat Plant-Based Chocolate

In similar research carried out two years ago, this figure was just 25%, showing a rapid growth in interest. Despite this, only 45% of respondents said they were satisfied with the plant-based milk chocolate currently available, with 61% saying they would prefer a wider variety of flavours and textures.
