Plant-based beverages are classed as drinks similar to dairy-based beverages in terms of texture and flavour as well as the nutritional benefits they offer. The market for plant-based beverages is dominated by plant milks, of which soy-based drinks are shown to have the fastest growth in a new report.
The American vegan delivery service MamaSezz and the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) recently announced that they will enter into a collaboration. Together, they will provide cancer patients and survivors with healthy, plant-based meals which have been shown to help prevent and treat cancer. The announcement follows the publication of the AICR report “Diet, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer: A Global Perspective”, which provides a comprehensive overview of current cancer prevention research. The report highlights the role of plant-based nutrition in cancer prevention and shows that a vegan diet can support cancer treatment and patient survival. A new campaign, called Give Bacon the Boot, has been launched by healthcare group Plant-Based Health Professionals UK. The initiative is aimed at hospitals and clinics, with the hope of discouraging them from serving and selling processed meats to staff and patients. The campaign’s motto states, “Lets get processed meat out of hospital. It’s time to #GiveBaconTheBoot.”

A report last month in The Journal of Nutrition shows findings from the Loma Linda University School of Public Health which states that vegans have more disease-fighting biomarkers than non-vegans.
