Clean meat pioneers Beyond Meat announced plans for expansion in a press release on 19th July titled “Beyond Meat Opens Doors of New State-of-the-Art Innovation Center in Los Angeles, Expanding Research Footprint and Fueling Progress Toward a Perfect Build of Meat Directly from Plants.”
The new facility will employ 100 staff members and is said to “Bring together the world’s best scientists, engineers, food technologists, chefs and managers in service of a single goal: perfectly build meat directly from plants.” This news comes after several recent news reports of Beyond’s continued success. For example, US supermarket Whole Foods sold out of their Beyond stock at California locations due to incredible demand. In response, this June Beyond revealed that they would increase production by 200% to meet this demand.
CEO and founder Ethan Brown spoke about their global expansion for the summer and that the famous Beyond Burger would roll out to 50 countries including the UK. In an open letter to customers he said: “The path to the perfect build of meat from plants is both long and steep, but with every iteration we are getting closer and closer. I am so pleased to join our special group of scientists, engineers, chefs and managers in announcing the opening of our new state-of-the-art innovation center.”
The new location is seven times that of their existing facility, and will impliment their Rapid & Relentless Innovation initiative, which aims to improve their products until their are indistinguishable from animal based meat. “The use of science and technology to build meat directly from plants, coupled with a commitment to all natural and non-GMO ingredients, is the core of our company. At Beyond Meat, we strive to understand meat at new levels, and then rebuild it using amino acids, lipids and minerals from plants. What the animal has done throughout history—organize plant material in the form of muscle or meat—we believe we can do more efficiently to the benefit of human health, the environment and animal welfare.”
