Gelymar Doubles Production Capacity

The Chilean company Gelymar recently announced that a capacity expansion program launched two years ago has been successfully completed with an investment of 15 million US dollars. This will double production capacity for the additive carrageenan to around 10,000 metric tons of product.

According to CEO Andres Hohlberg, this investment was necessary to meet the growing demand for Gelymar’s new renewable carrageenan product line. The carrageenan is sustainably obtained from cold water algae by the manufacturer and is vegan and gluten-free. By doubling its production capacity, Gelymar has now positioned itself as a key player and one of the three leading carrageenan producers worldwide.

The expansion is also in line with the company’s efforts to strengthen its position in Europe and North America. “Over the past 18 months, we have launched a number of highly successful new products for the vegan, dairy, confectionery, pharmaceutical, and personal care markets,” said Hohlberg. “Most of these products are derived from local Chilean algae, and we definitely needed more capacity to meet demand.”

Gelymar is one of the world’s three leading manufacturers of carrageenan and texture solutions. The company has three production sites in Chile and Indonesia, two product technology centers, and a worldwide distribution network, and exports its products to more than 50 countries.
