Oatly Launches Sustainable Packaging Made from Sugarcane

Oatly has teamed up with Evergreen Packaging to deliver Oatly Frozen – a completely sustainable non dairy product that meets Oatly’s focus on environmental responsibility and sustainability.

A press release from Oatly announced the move last week: “Oatly Frozen, made from oats instead of cow’s milk, has switched to Evergreen Packaging’s Sentinel™. Sentinel™ is a first of its kind; eco-friendly paper-based packaging made with an innovative renewable coating derived from sugarcane.”

With a driving factor in the vegan market being the environment, it is logical that the packaging should not compromise that factor. Coconut Bliss ice cream also unveiled a sugarcane packaging solution last August, and now even pharmaceutical giants like Colgate are getting a place in the market; last week Colgate announced its new launch of vegan toothpaste, called ‘Smile for Good’, which has fully recyclable packaging.

Chris Johns, Vice President of Paperboard Sales & Marketing for Evergreen Packaging stated: “We are pleased to be a part of helping Oatly expand its commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing through the use of Sentinel™. Oatly’s switch reinforces what we are hearing in the marketplace that the use of renewable materials is a value that is central to many brands. We believe it is not a trend, but the early stages of a total change in the marketplace for responsible companies.”
