Based in New York, Gathered Foods has opened a new plant in the town of Heath, Ohio. Founded by Chad and Derek Sarno, the plant-based seafood maker’s 42,500 square foot alternative fish production facility expects to have 80 employees before the beginning of next year.
Just last month the company’s brand Good Catch® announced a new line of frozen entrees and appetizers, consisting of New England Style Crab Cakes, Thai Style Fish Cakes, and Classic Style Fish Burgers. The new facility will ramp up its plant-based seafood production to another level, creating jobs in a state hit hard by the Covid crisis, which has caused a plethora of job losses.
So far this year, the company has secured a $36.8 M series B financing round. It also sealed a distribution deal with supermarket giant Tesco and announced a partnership deal with Bumble Bee Foods. Backed by top celebrities such as Woody Harrelson and Paris Hilton, the company has witnessed numerous successes to begin the decade.
Chad and Derek Sarno are also the creators of the blog Wicked Healthy and The Wicked Healthy Cookbook, showing readers how to live a healthy plant-based lifestyle, and just last month, Chad Sarno was a guest on the PlantBased Business Hour with Elysabeth Alfano, who spoke about the plant-based seafood industry as a whole, the challenges of finding the right texture for these kinds of foods, and the importance of finding the right partners in order for the industry to thrive.
