Big Mountain Foods to Open New 70,000 Square Foot Production Facility by 2021

Vancouver-based plant-based food company Big Mountain Foods has announced a significant expansion of its production capacity by 2021 with the construction of a new 70,000 square foot facility. By increasing capacity, the company intends to compete with other global plant-based brands in the future.

Big Mountain Foods was founded by the mother-daughter duo Kimberly and Jasmine Chamberland and recently began selling to Kroger, the top-selling American supermarket chain, which led to this production expansion. At the same time, the company launched four new plant-based products in Canada and the USA. All Big Mountain Foods products are gluten, nut and soy-free, certified vegan and GMO-free.

“I am so proud of the expansion that Big Mountain has achieved up to this point. The new facility will allow us to accelerate our product distribution strategy in the US, Canada and Asia over the next five years,” said Kimberly Chamberland, President of Big Mountain Foods. Over the course of two years, the company also underwent a major relaunch of its products. The packaging now contains 40 percent less plastic and 25 percent less cardboard material to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. The company also plans to operate a zero-waste factory by 2025.
