Cultivated seafood pioneer BlueNalu announces a new scientific advisory board (SAB), formed by multidisciplinary experts to support the company’s coming scale-up and consumer product development.

The SAB will work with BlueNalu’s senior leadership to provide strategic guidance and solutions to accelerate the large-scale commercialization plans of BlueNalu’s cell-cultured seafood.
BlueNalu says it has developed a robust pipeline of seafood products from a wide array of species and plans to launch its first commercial product, premium bluefin tuna toro, following regulatory approval in the US.
The company has plans to bring its products to Europe through Nomad Foods, and recently announced a partnership with Japan’s largest sushi operator to supply its cultivated tuna. BlueNalu claims to have developed two new technologies that unlock the profitability and scalability of its cell-cultured seafood.
World-class expertise
The new SAB appointees are experts in innovation, product development, bioprocessing, engineering, sensory science, and systems, according to BlueNalu. The SAB entails four scientific thought leaders with world-class expertise:
Geoffrey Margolis, Sc.D
Margolis is a master inventor and an accomplished engineer with 25+ patents. In his 50-year-long career, he has worked with clients including Califia Farms, Taco Bell Corp; E & J Gallo Winery; and Mars Symbiosciences & Heliae Corp. He also was the director and head of Nestlé’s largest New Product Development Center, LINOR.
Jennifer Jo Wiseman
Wiseman is a consumer product developer who brings innovative and successful food, beverage, and personal care products to market. Her 35-year-long career spans E & J Gallo Winery, PepsiCo, Proctor & Gamble, and The Gillette Company.
Daniel Gold, Ph.D.
Gold is described as an innovative entrepreneur. In his 40-year-long career, he has pioneered bioprocess solutions in industrial and pharmaceutical biotechnology. He has worked at FujiFilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, Human Genome Sciences, Sutro Biopharma, and BioMarin Pharmaceutical.
Nitin Baliga, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Baliga is the senior vice president, director, professor, and founding member of the Institute for Systems Biology. He also serves on scientific advisory boards for numerous academic and industrial organizations. He also is an advisor for the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy in the US.
