Daiya’s Improved Pizzas with New Fermented Oat Cheese Are Huge Hit with Consumers

Coinciding with National Pizza Month, Daiya, a leading North American product of plant-based dairy alternatives, has introduced a significantly updated version of its plant-based pizza line.

The company recently completed a multi-million-dollar upgrade to its bakery facility, allowing for significant improvements in both production capacity and product quality. The reformulated pizzas are now available at major retailers throughout the United States and Canada.

“We’ve been able to completely overhaul nearly every aspect of our pizzas”

The new pizzas feature a gluten-free crust that is lighter, crispier, and fluffier than previous versions, paired with a tomato sauce that has been refined for a richer flavor. However, the most notable difference is the new cheese blend, made with Daiya’s proprietary Daiya Oat Cream™ blend, which was developed and introduced earlier this year.

Created through fermentation using plant-based cultures, the new blend more accurately replicates the texture and melt of traditional dairy cheese, providing a creamier and more satisfying experience than the company’s previous offerings.

Meeting high standards

Daiya’s updated pizza line includes six varieties catering to plant-based eaters and flexitarians:  cheese, meatless pepperoni, supreme, fire-roasted veggie, BBQ chick’n, and meatless meat lovers. The pizzas incorporate carefully selected plant-based toppings, including meat substitutes like Beyond Meat sausage and its own-made meatless pepperoni slices and plant-based chick’n shreds. The company also plans to introduce improvements to its Flatbread line later this year.

The company’s chief commercial officer, Melanie Domer, noted, “At Daiya, we’ve made it our mission to ensure there’s a dairy-free and gluten-free option that doesn’t sacrifice on taste and truly stands out on supermarket shelves.

“By investing millions into our bakery facility, we’ve been able to completely overhaul nearly every aspect of our pizzas, delivering an enhanced taste that meets the high standards of pizza lovers everywhere.”

Positive consumer response

This overhaul was made possible by the company’s significant investment into its British Columbia-based LEED-certified facility, which now handles the complete production of the pizzas in-house. The facility’s upgrades have doubled production capacity and allowed Daiya to improve consistency in taste and texture — common challenges in the plant-based pizza category.

Early consumer feedback on social media has been incredibly positive, with many praising the new recipe for its improved taste and ingredient quality compared to the old recipe. The updated pizzas are available in the US at major retailers like Whole Foods, Kroger, and Walmart, and in Canada at Loblaws, Metro, and Save on Foods.
