ProVeg Czechia announces it has established an export alliance called the ProVeg Czech Export Alliance alongside government agency CzechTrade, with the purpose of supporting Czech plant-based food producers.
The first members of the alliance, whose primary aim is to assist sustainable and innovative Czech plant-based products to get a foothold in foreign markets, are SEMIX PLUSO, kojibakers, Janova pec, Soyka and Ovegano Foods.
Other examples of Czech producers in the plant-based and alt protein space include Mewery, which claims to be the first European foodtech startup to develop cultivated pork on a proprietary microalgae base; producer of the award-winning ManaBurger, Heaven Labs; Lunter; and Vegan Grill, maker of the 1st Czech vegan burger patty made from broad beans and peas.
“It is in the interest of the Czech Republic to include alternative proteins in its strategic policies as soon as possible. Such an approach will not only help to mitigate climate change but will also make Czech agriculture and the Czech food industry more competitive,” explains Ivana Procházková from ProVeg Czechia.
Western markets present great opportunity
Says Martin Ranninger, country director of ProVeg Czechia: “While interest in plant-based foods has grown significantly in the Czech Republic in recent years, the market for plant-based foods in Western markets presents a great opportunity for exports.
“The newly established ProVeg Czech Export Alliance is proof that Czech food producers see the economic potential of plant-based foods, while also recognising their lower environmental impact, compared to animal-based products,” he adds.
Jana Trnková, an export consultant for CzechTrade, comments: “The CzechTrade Export Alliance service that we provide is very useful for companies in the context of trade presentations abroad. Exporters can effectively share know-how and costs and use synergies resulting from cooperation. Within CzechTrade, several alliances are already working very well. An alliance focused on plant-based foods is another one that makes sense and fulfils our goal of promoting Czech products abroad.”
