• Europe’s Plant-Based Leaders Are Invited to the Salon de l’Agriculture!

The world is changing and opening up to plant-based food. In November 2020, the world’s largest animal meat show, the IFFA, said it would open up to alternative proteins for the first time when the show makes its comeback – following a two-year break due to Covid-19 – in May 2022. Indeed, after seven decades entirely devoted to butchery, plant-based meat will be highlighted for the first time during this iconic show.

On the French side, it is the turn of the Salon de l’Agriculture, which takes place from 26 February to 6 March 2022 at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, to open up to plant-based meats. Among more than 1,000 exhibitors, three leading startups from the global plant scene will present their alternative and innovative products to the show’s visitors.

La Vie‘s speciality is the development of traditionally pork-based products, such as bacon or lardons, but using exclusively plant-based ingredients. After obtaining national listing of its plant-based lardons at Carrefour at the end of 2021, La Vie is now available in E. Leclerc stores in western France.

“Yes, we are going to the International Agricultural Show. We’re really looking forward to planting a little La Vie veggie seed in this mythical place, and to let people taste our products who might never have given them a chance. If you’re along for the ride, we’d love to welcome you and let you discover La Vie!” the French startup said on social media.

Heura, the leading Spanish plant-based meat company, has recently entered the French market, offering a wide range of alternatives to beef, chicken and pork. The products are available in selected Carrefour, E. Leclerc, Monoprix and Géant Casino supermarkets. Heura’s presence at the agriculture fair, which highlights conventional animal products, is a form of activism for its co-founders Marc Coloma and Bernat Añaños.

The startup explained on social media: “This is the last place you would expect to find a plant-based meat company. The Salon de l’Agriculture, one of the biggest and most important agricultural shows in the world. The meat and cheese capital of France. We will be at the Salon de l’Agriculture so that one day cows will no longer be there. The future will be plant-based and so will the show.

Committing to sustainable and creative food, through an offer of innovative, 100% plant-based and natural products to be enjoyed like cheese, all without compromising on taste or quality: this was the ambition of Les Nouveaux Affineurs when the French start-up was born in 2017.

“The International Agricultural Show continues to open up to plant-based alternatives! Pioneers of plant-based alternatives to cheese, we are the only player in the sector present at the show since 2018,” said the French startup on social networks.
