The plant-based deli brand Plantega and the animal welfare organization World Animal Protection US are joining forces at Climate Week NYC 2024 to promote plant-based eating to protect animals and the planet.
The collaboration aims to raise awareness about the “devastating” environmental impact of animal agriculture and the link between eating meat, dairy, and eggs and climate change. According to the non-profit, most climate decisions and strategies overlook industrial meat and dairy despite their significant role in GHG emissions and land use.
“Plant-based eating is not just easy and delicious — it’s the ultimate way to protect animals and our planet.”
Lindsay Oliver, Executive Director of World Animal Protection US, shares: “The growing accessibility of innovative animal-free proteins signals a culinary and environmental revolution. We’ve partnered with Plantega to prove that plant-based eating is not just easy and delicious — it’s the ultimate way to protect animals and our planet.”
Free vegan sandwich samples
Running from September 22 to 29, this year’s Climate Week NYC carries the theme “We Will,” highlighting the commitment of climate activists to create a better future for all of Earth’s inhabitants.
Throughout the week, the organizations have multiple events planned to engage the community. On September 23, they will host an invite-only community event where guests can taste a 100% plant-based version of a New York favorite: the chopped cheese sandwich.
On Wednesday, September 25, teams and volunteers will distribute free vegan sandwich samples at Yummy Hive Deli while supplies last. Additionally, the partnership’s messaging for climate week, “Eat Plants. Save Animals. Fight Climate Change,” will be displayed on outdoor signage at all Plantega locations.
Making alternatives accesible
This event marks the fourth consecutive year that World Animal Protection US has been involved in Climate Week NYC. The non-profit, which works across almost 50 countries, claims to be the only animal welfare organization with UN Consultative Status, enabling it to influence global decision-makers.
Meanwhile, Plantega, based in New York, offers turnkey plant-based solutions specializing in New York deli-style food. Since its establishment in 2021, the brand has seen significant growth. Currently, its 100% plant-based menu is available at over 55 delis across New York City, on major delivery apps, and at its recently launched delivery and catering kitchen based in Brooklyn.
Plantega food partners include the plant-based cheese brand Stockeld Dreamery, the jackfruit specialist KARANA, California’s Prime Roots with its Koji-based deli meats, California’s Umaro Foods with its seaweed bacon, and many more.
Nil Zacharias, founder and CEO of Plantega, shared: “Partnering with World Animal Protection US for NYC Climate Week is a no-brainer. It makes perfect sense to use this opportunity to show New Yorkers that their essential bodegas can make plant-based eating accessible while also helping mitigate the effect on the climate and animals.”
