Pulmuone to Showcase Plant-Based & K-Food Innovations at SIAL Paris 2024

Major Korean tofu manufacturer Pulmuone has announced it will be present at the food industry trade show SIAL Paris from October 19-23.

Pulmuone will showcase a range of plant-based and K-food innovations at the event, which will take place at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre. The company is known for offering various plant-based protein foods containing meat alternatives and tofu, along with traditional Korean street foods in the noodle and rice cake categories.

40-year history

Pulmuone was founded in 1984, and entered the US market in 1991 with the establishment of a new subsidiary in the country. The company subsequently expanded into China, Japan, and Vietnam.

In 2020, Pulmuone launched a new plant-based brand called Plantspired for the global market, featuring a range of meat alternatives, tofu, and high-protein products. The company also owns the leading US tofu brand Nasoya, and showcased a range of new Asian-inspired plant-based products under the brand at Natural Products Expo West in March.

Over the past year, Pulmuone has made its commitment to food tech clear through partnerships with mycelium tech company Infinite Roots and ABB Korea Robotics. The latter collaboration aims to automate the cultivation process for seafood using ABB’s robotics technology, with the target of mass-producing cultivated seafood products by 2026.

The rise of K-food

Pulmuone has announced that it aims to lead the spread of K-food, which has become a fast-growing trend globally. In a 2022 survey, almost half of respondents (49.1%) said Korean food was very popular in their country, while 27.2% said it was moderately popular. This is partly driven by a phenomenon known as hallyu or The Korean Wave, which refers to the surge of interest in Korean popular culture in recent years.

“Pulmuone is thrilled to introduce a wide variety of noodle and tofu offerings,” said Suk Won Kim, VP of Marketing at Pulmuone, in March. “We’re proud to help shape a greener future with new plant-based options that don’t sacrifice taste, convenience, or flavor. Pulmuone’s latest innovations align with our commitment to deliver high-quality products and authentic flavors.”

Pulmuone will be present in Hall 5B, stand 5B J238 at SIAL Paris.
