Webinar: How Ingredient Decisions Affect the Sustainability Impact of Your Products

ProVeg International is hosting a webinar in partnership with the SaaS data platform company HowGood on 15 December, at 15:00 (CET). It aims to give food-industry leaders a better understanding of how to improve their product’s environmental impact and get closer to reaching their net-zero targets.

The question is, do consumers actually care about the sustainability of their plant-based food products? According to a 2021 pan-EU Smart Protein survey, led by ProVeg International, the answer is yes, with 62% of European consumers stating that they want their food to be environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly.

Expert advice

The webinar featuring HowGood’s Senior Vice President, Rachel Calomeni, and Growth & Innovation strategist Emma Yates, will provide tips on how to tweak ingredient formulations or growing locations to reduce carbon emissions or water usage.

Calomeni, who has 25 years’ experience working in or alongside consumer goods companies and a passion for preserving our planet, said, ‘Every single food ingredient has some sort of environmental and social impact on climate change, biodiversity and our nature system. 1/3 GHGs are attributed to our food system; most coming from the farm stage, and biodiversity loss. It is imperative that we reduce the impact of climate change or we face the prospect of global food shortages and prolonged extreme weather events.’

The 45-minute webinar will consist of a presentation from HowGood, followed by a Q&A moderated by ProVeg and will cover:

  • Why you should be prioritising sustainability with your plant-based product, and the importance of sustainability to consumers.
  • The environmental impact of the different stages of food-and-ingredient production.
  • How switching ingredients can improve your carbon footprint.
  • The importance and impact of growing location.

This webinar will provide food-industry leaders with ideas for small changes that can have a big impact when it comes to improving a product’s sustainability. Register for the webinar for free today.
