Vegan Beauty as a Leading Trend

The beauty and personal care market has seen a huge rise in new vegan products in 2018. In the 12-month period ending January 2018, vegan beauty products in the UK have seen sales rise by 38%. Consumers are consciously seeking plant-based and cruelty-free products for ethical, environmental, or trend-led reasons, and the global market has been quick to respond.

Personal care giant L’Oréal acquired German vegan and organic beauty brand Naturkosmetik. According to L’Oréal, it was a move to drive the company forward on the major beauty trend of vegan cosmetics. Similar merge was Tengram’s acquisition of vegan make-up brand Lime Crime. Online retailer Beauty Bay launched its own brand vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics range. Cosmax became the first beauty product manufacturer in Asia to receive Expertise Vegan Europe (EVE) certification.

Former beauty queen Boipelo Mabe launched a vegan skincare range in South Africa in collaboration with My Skincare.

There has also been a surge in retailers vegan offerings: Target launched its vegan fragrance line Good Chemistry in January, while UK health store chain Holland & Barrett announced its plans to open two vegan stores. International Flavors & Fragrance now has a portfolio of 90 vegan ingredients certified by EVE standards.
