The Styrian cosmetics label PURE SKIN FOOD by No Planet B GmbH has taken a further step in its approach to sustainability – the company is now officially carbon-neutral. For the label’s founders, being environmentally friendly and conserving resources is part of their corporate responsibility.
PURE SKIN FOOD products contain only 100 percent certified organic, purely plant-based raw materials. The company says it has thus already set a new quality standard in the cosmetics industry. In contrast to conventional agriculture, organic farming produces 30 percent less carbon dioxide emissions on average. The climate-neutral production of its products is another milestone in its climate-friendly way of working.
No Planet B stands for comprehensive climate protection
No Planet B GmbH is the name of the company behind the PURE SKIN FOOD brand. It was founded in 2017 by Dr. Nicole Doyle and MMag. Lisa Dobler, together with the Styrian e-commerce company niceshops. Their shared vision is to offer authentic and holistic sustainable alternatives, to think ahead together, and to show what can already be achieved.
3 pillars for climate neutrality
In order to achieve the goal of climate neutrality, No Planet B GmbH, together with niceshops, have developed and implemented a sustainability strategy based on three pillars: Avoid – Reduce – Offset.
The primary goal is to avoid causing CO2 emissions in the first place. Where it can’t be avoided, efforts are made to keep them as low as possible. Any emissions that do occur are calculated by Joanneum Research and offset by Regreen through eco-social, UN-certified projects. The projects aim to reduce greenhouse gases in India, Bangladesh, and Peru. They are all UNO-certified, so that the avoidance of climate-damaging greenhouse gases is guaranteed.
Thanks to the energy efficiency of its newly-built production plant and warehouses as well as its use of green electricity – largely from the company’s own photovoltaic system with 200 kWp – it is possible for it to avoid CO2 emissions in many areas.
The reduction measures include:
- Sustainable construction of the warehouses & production facilities with lots of wood and high energy efficiency
- Heating and cooling are covered between 60 and 100 percent by waste heat from the neighbouring biogas plant.
- Plastic-free, environmentally friendly shipping materials with adhesive-free closure
- Conscientious recycling of waste and recyclable materials
- Local, mostly organic food in the canteen
Sustainability and environmentally friendly production are also taken into account when selecting suppliers and partners. In Austria, the dispatch of parcels by post is also climate-neutral.
