NO-ONE’S SKIN is a luxury vegan shoe collection which was founded by German designer Ivana Basilotta, in order to bring awareness and create change. The aim of the brand is to alter the misconception held by the general population that leather is a superior natural product: “NO ONE’S SKIN emphatically states that this is a myth pedalled by the leather industry.”
The high fashion shoe designer, based in Kensington London, is dedicated to producing handmade, cruelty-free shoes for women. This first collection includes boots, kitten heels, wedges, sandals and pumps which are now available to purchase online.
Fashion designer Ivana has been a vegetarian turned vegan for most of her life and believes it is important to raise awareness of the brutal realities of the leather industry and the impact that it has upon the planet. “Leather is animal skin that decomposes naturally, if it were not processed with a mass of chemicals, a process known as tanning. Without some form of treatment animal skins would simply rot and fall apart. The chemical cocktails used on leather are considered by environmentalists to be a major source of pollution.”
NO -ONE’S SKIN products are not only vegan, but are also environmentally friendly, something which is integral to their ethos: “We have access to an abundance of new, innovative and sustainable materials made from plant based polymers with naturally renewable sources, grains, seeds, and recycled fibres which have exquisite properties that are far superior to leather. ”
Basilotta feels that vegan shoes must become available in all retail stores in the way that vegan food should be made available in every restaurant. “We believe that leather and fur to be primitive products of the past. We do not use animal skins, but offer luxury products made from the finest sustainable materials, the ultimate way of innovative shopping.”
