Plant-based meat manufacturing technology company Rebellyous Foods has announced a partnership with RMS Foods to launch a new production system that it believes will revolutionize the industry.
Called Mock 2©, the fully continuous, automated, and chilled dough substrate processing system can produce a variety of plant-based meat products at volumes of 2,500-5,000 lb/hr on a single processing line. This will enable Rebellyous to manufacture meat alternatives at a lower cost, competing with traditional meat production on both price and quality. The technology also minimizes waste, improves energy efficiency, and provides a safer environment for workers.
The development has been made possible through a collaboration with RMS Foods, which specializes in the production of high-quality plant-based meat products. Mock 2 was unveiled today at RMS’s state-of-the-art facility in New Mexico.
“This collaboration with Rebellyous Foods positions our region at the forefront of food tech innovation,” said Sam Cobb, President of RMS Foods and Mayor of Hobbs, New Mexico. “We’re advancing manufacturing capabilities and creating high-skilled jobs and driving economic growth in our community.”
Reshaping global eating habits
Rebellyous Foods previously raised $9.5 million in 2023 to build Mock 2. At the beginning of this year, the company announced it was accepting proposals from USDA or FDA food facilities to install and operate the production system.
Rebellyous has seen huge success by selling to schools participating in the US’s National School Lunch Program; its plant-based chicken products are now served at over 275 school districts. Sales have roughly doubled in each of the last three years, and the products currently reach over 4 million students US-wide.
The company now hopes to scale its operations to significantly impact the global protein market, making plant-based eating more accessible to consumers worldwide. In April, founder and CEO Christie Lagally was named as one of Inc. Magazine’s top Female Founders of 2024.
“Today marks a pivotal moment in the future of food,” said Lagally. “We’ve been on a mission to engineer and deploy a system that efficiently and affordably crafts our high-quality, restaurant-style plant-based chicken nuggets, tenders, and patties. Partnering with RMS Foods allows us to fulfill this mission, catalyzing a path for sustainable protein production that is poised to reshape global eating habits.”
