Kaiser, a new brand specializing in frozen oat-based desserts, has launched across select retailers in Quebec. The brand was developed by Nathan Kaiser, a Canadian farmer with extensive experience in small-batch oat production.
“I love the fact that we handle the production in our own factory so we can control the taste, texture, and overall experience”
Kaiser’s products cater to the increasing demand for oat-based alternatives in the dessert market, offering a range of vegan and gluten-free options, with a nationwide rollout planned by 2025.
The range includes family-sized tubs and chocolate-dipped bars, with flavors such as Salted Caramel, Mint Chip, and Cookies & Cream. All the offerings are vegan, the majority of which are also gluten-free. These desserts are currently available at retailers, including Maxi, Magasin Pasquier, and Les 5 Saisons in Quebec. The brand aims to expand its availability to the Greater Toronto Area by the end of 2024, followed by a national distribution the following year.

The Kaiser family has been involved in farming for over four decades in Noyan, Quebec, with a focus on crop production. Nathan Kaiser, founder and president of Groupe Kaiser, is continuing this family tradition, integrating his agricultural background into the development of the dessert line.
Local sourcing and production
Kaiser explained, “I took my personal experience and family background in farming to determine where we’d source our oats in Canada. I love the fact that we handle the production in our own factory so we can control the taste, texture, and overall experience that we want our customers to have.”
Kaiser’s production currently takes place in Quebec, but by early 2025, operations will move to a new 45,000-square-foot facility designed specifically for plant-based frozen desserts. According to Kaiser, this facility will be the first of its kind in North America, furthering the company’s ability to scale and control product quality.

Achieving a creamy texture
The company emphasizes the use of Canadian-grown oats, a crop that represents 14% of global oat production, with nearly four million tonnes harvested annually in Canada. Kaiser’s oat-based desserts are made using oat beverage rather than powdered oats, a choice that the company claims helps achieve a creamier texture. Additionally, all packaging is made from recycled cardboard as part of the company’s commitment to sustainability.
Kaiser joins other companies such as Oatly, Breyers, and Whipped Urban Dessert Lab, which have also explored the use of oat milk in frozen desserts due to its creamy qualities.
“The quality of our oats, our eco-friendly and sustainable methods of production, and of course, the delicious frozen desserts are all part of my mission to deliver the best-tasting products for Canadians to savour and share with their family and friends,” concludes Kaiser.
