Mos Burger: Japan’s Most Popular Domestic Burger Chain Adds Vegan Option

According to Japanese news platform Sora News, Japan’s most popular domestic burger chain has added a vegan burger called The Green Burger. Mos Burger, with the MOS as an abbreviation for “mountain, ocean, sky” – has reportedly begun offering a 100% plantbased option this month as interest in veganism continues to rise in Asia.

The vegan option, also called the Mos Plant-based Green Burger, is made from soybean, enhanced with cabbage and konyaku which is a traditional Japanese gelatin that comes from yams. Sora News states that the burger buns get their light green color from spinach puree, which helps accentuate the natural sweetness of the vegetables.

The burger costs 538 yen (US$5), and is available at nine Mos Burger locations, eight in Tokyo and one in Kanagawa. According to the Japanese news platform, “depending on customer response, the chain hopes to expand the Green Burger’s availability to its restaurants across Japan in May.”
