Pet food startup PawCo announces the launch of its proprietary dog food made from plant-based meat. Founded by Dr. Mahsa Vazin, a former Impossible Foods employee, PawCo also reveals it raised a seed round earlier this year for an undisclosed amount.

According to the brand, it has invented the world’s first fully plant-based meat designed specifically for pet food. Made to be as tasty as traditional meat, PawCo says its recipe contains all the essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals most adult dogs need to thrive. Its product offerings feature plant-based protein mixed with a variety of fruit and vegetables; including Peanut Butter and Apple, Green Mix and Carrots, and Blueberries and Veggies.
Because the foods are animal product-free, they are also recommended for pets with allergies. The company is backed by a team of scientists and board-certified pet nutritionists and says its products meet or exceed AAFCO feeding standards.
New pet food generation
As the market for meat-free dog food continues to grow, recent studies have demonstrated that dogs fed a well-balanced, plant-based diet exhibited fewer signs of poor health and illness than dogs fed standard kibble. US brands like Wild Earth, V-Dog, and Petaluma have seen significant growth over the past year, while non-pet food producers like Clif Bar recently entered the segment with plant-based dog jerky.
PawCo says it has already shipped its first batch of products and is accepting new orders. By removing animals from the pet food supply chain, the company hopes to improve pet care while reducing the environmental impact of dog food manufacturing.
