8Foods Launches Almond-Based Vegan & Keto Hot Cross Buns in the UK

British brand 8Foods has launched vegan-friendly and keto hot cross buns. Hot cross buns are spiced sweet bread rolls containing dried fruit and marked with a cross, traditionally eaten over the Easter period in the UK and some commonwealth countries.

8Foods’ almond-based keto buns contain six grams of carbohydrates each, compared to the usual 40 grams for traditional hot cross buns. They are free of refined sugar, dairy, gluten, grains, and yeast.

Other vegan and keto foods offered by 8Foods include bread rolls, bagels, energy bites, and raw brownies. The products are all handmade in small batches in the brand’s London kitchens, and some are available at retailers such as Whole Foods, Selfridges, and Planet Organic.

Vegan Easter foods

Several companies have launched plant-based versions of traditional Easter foods this year, with Seggiano recently introducing its first ever vegan Colomba cake. Aldi UK is offering a meatless lamb-style roasting joint, while brands such as NOMO have launched vegan Easter eggs and other chocolates.

“We are incredibly excited to be expanding our range of keto breads and bakes with the launch of our hot cross bun,” said 8Foods founder Alexi von Eldik. “The product has been in the making for a very long time because we wanted to make sure we could provide the best keto hot cross bun possible for our customers, and we truly believe we have. We know what a firm favourite hot cross buns are at this time of the year, and with our launch, they can now also be enjoyed by those who want a tasty but keto alternative to the traditional hot cross bun.”

The buns are now available from the 8Foods website.
