According to recent reports, Ferrero will soon be offering vegan versions of two of its most popular classic products on the German market — Nutella and Hanuta (a German hazelnut wafer snack)
At the end of May, the Italian confectionery company Ferrero announced its intention to launch plant-based Nutella on the Italian market in autumn. The new vegan Nutella was presented at the NielsenIQ event Linkontro in Sardinia at the beginning of May to mark the 60th anniversary of the iconic chocolate-hazelnut spread.
According to a recent report by LZ Direkt, the new plant-based Nutella variant will most likely also be available in German supermarkets from January 2025. According to the report, Ferrero Germany has already registered a word/figurative mark for the new variant with the German Patent and Trademark Office in December 2023. According to the report, the new Nutella version is certified vegan and is primarily aimed at flexitarians.
Vegan hanuta confirmed for Veganuary 2025
Ferrero has already confirmed the launch of a vegan Hanuta alternative as part of Veganuary 2025, as announced by Veganuary Germany on Instagram. This will initially be available in German stores as a limited edition under the name “Hanuta Crispy Cocoa”. Ferrero has not yet confirmed whether this variant will subsequently be permanently available on the German market.
Giorgio Santambrogio, CEO of the VéGé Group, announced the launch of the vegan Nutella variant on LinkedIn as follows: “We like to be partners in the innovations of our friends in the industry and here we are with the innovation of innovations: Nutella is changing, evolving and here is the launch of plant-based Nutella. Gruppo VéGé is, as always, the first retailer to be informed about Ferrero’s innovations.”
