“World’s First Oat-Milk Ice Crème Shoppe,” Urban Dessert Lab, Debuts New Plant-Based Desserts

Urban Dessert Lab (UDL), the “World’s First Oat-Milk Ice Crème™ Shoppe,” has announced the expansion of its dessert menu with the introduction of several new plant-based desserts. The shop, owned by sisters Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R., has gained recognition for its unique dessert offerings and was recently named one of ESPN’s Champion Black Businesses for 2024.

The first UDL location opened in New York City’s Lower East Side in 2020. The shop quickly garnered attention from food enthusiasts and celebrities, leading to high demand for additional locations. Responding to customer requests, the founders chose West Hollywood, Los Angeles, for their second establishment, which opened in February of this year.

New summer menu

UDL’s new summer menu includes a variety of plant-based, gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, and egg-free desserts. New items on the menu are:

  • Bakery Collection: Classic creme cakes and signature cookies
  • The Cavissant: A croissant highlighted by truffle oil and seeds, topped with seaweed caviar
  • The Bruleesant: A croissant with a brûlée topping, served with mousse-inspired crème for dipping
  • Deconstructed Waffle Cone Cereal: Waffle cone pieces inspired by UDL’s signature ice cream flavors. Available in Original, Cinnamon, and Chocolate, with specialty flavors such as Coffee, Strawberry, and Matcha.

UDL also offers catering services in New York and Los Angeles, accommodating events, parties, and corporate meetings with customizable menus. Customers can even request specialized desserts and flavors for their events.

Community engagement

The company’s mission is “Changing the way people think about plant-based cuisine and creating food that is better for people and the planet.” In line with this, UDL launched the UDL Inspire program. This program is open to grades 4-8 in LA and NYC, where students have the opportunity to meet with the founders and visit the store for a hands-on experience and complimentary treats. The company noted, “We wanted to support our community and invite students to experience entrepreneurship and science in an exciting way.”

These summer additions will remain on the menu permanently. If you’re not located in NYC or LA, UDL offers nationwide shipping of its Brûléesants™, cookies, ice crème, and the new deconstructed cone cereals, and plans to begin shipping its cakes soon.
