Beyond Burger in Canadian A&W Restaurants

There has been no official announcement yet, but a publicly posted photo suggests that on July 9th, the Beyond Burger will be introduced in nearly 1,000 Canadian A&W restaurants.

The Beyond Burger would be the first vegan burger officially offered by the chain. A&W is not the first chain to have the vegan burger in stock. Beyond Meat is also available at chains such as “Bareburger Restaurants” and “Luna Grill”.

The burger is also attractive from a health point of view. It contains no cholesterol and less than half the saturated fat of beef. It also contains 20 grams of protein and does not use any GMO ingredients, soy or gluten.

Beyond Meat wants to offer the vegan products not just in restaurants, but also at supermarkets. Ethan Brown, founder and CEO of Beyond Meat, recently said that the Beyond Burger was selling better in this environment than its meat counterpart. Over a period of five weeks, a supermarket chain in Southern California sold more Beyond Burgers than any minced meat option.

The collaboration with A&W is part of Beyond Meat’s global expansion plans, announced this spring. Recently, a line of vegan sausages was launched. Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket chain, is expected to launch the Beyond Burger in August 2018.
