Vegan Fast Food Chain Swing Kitchen Opens First of Four New German Locations in Munich

Austria-based fast food chain Swing Kitchen has continued its expansion into Germany with the opening of a new location in Munich.

The 175-square-metre site has space for 40 guests and is located in Maxvorstadt, often said to be the cultural centre of the city. It has Swing Kitchen’s signature aesthetic, based on the swing era of the 1930s and 40s.

The menu features a range of burgers, including the Swing Burger, Chili Burger, and Cheese Burger. A selection of wraps and salads is also available, along with sides such as fries, nuggets, and onion rings. For dessert, customers can choose from cheesecake, tiramisu, and more.

Sustainable concept

Swing Kitchen already has two locations in Berlin, and is said to be preparing to open restaurants in the cities of Düsseldorf, Heidelberg, and Leipzig later this year. In Austria, the chain has five locations in Vienna, one in Graz, and one in Innsbruck. Swing Kitchen also opened a restaurant in the Swiss capital of Bern in 2018.

According to the chain, half of its customers are meat-eaters, with young, well-educated women particularly well-represented.

“We are the most sustainable concept in the industry. That means our ecological footprint is extremely positive,” Swing Kitchen’s founders told vegconomist.de in 2018. “Because we are purely vegan, we save enormous amounts of energy, water, feed, and CO2. But the green concept does not stop at the edge of the plate — we only sell our products in compostable packaging, which is all completely plastic-free.”
