Wetherspoon Launches Katsu Quorn Nugget Curry for Veganuary

UK pub chain Wetherspoon has launched a new plant-based menu item, Katsu Quorn Nugget Curry, for Veganuary.

The Japanese-style curry contains vegan Quorn chicken nuggets in katsu curry sauce. It is topped with sliced chillis and coriander, and served on a bed of coconut flavoured rice. The menu option was previously trialled at a limited number of locations, but is now available nationwide.

“Our vegan meals are extremely popular”

The curry adds to Wetherspoon’s extensive plant-based range, which also includes pizza, a Beyond Meat burger, five-bean chilli, an English breakfast, and more. The chain is promoting these options throughout its pubs this month in support of Veganuary.

Vegan pub food

While UK pub food is not traditionally vegan-friendly, things are changing. Last year, Welsh pub The Queen Inn made its entire menu plant-based for Veganuary, and experienced so much success that it made the change permanent. This year, the pub is celebrating Veganuary with a vegan steak menu.

Pub chain Greene King has also been expanding its plant-based options, launching vegan fish and chips by OmniFoods at over 500 locations.

“Our vegan meals are extremely popular and are an important part of our overall food offering,” said Matt Elsdon, food development manager at Wetherspoon. “This year we have added Katsu Quorn Nugget Curry to the menu. We are pleased to be associated with Veganuary and to highlight the range of vegan dishes on our menu.”
