New Chef-Led Startup Launches to Bring Frozen Vegan Dishes Around the UK with Free Delivery DTC

Plant-based, frozen, and shelf-stable are leading the way through the troubles caused to the foodservice sector during this global pandemic. Riding on this wave, vegan ready meal brand Pep Kitchen in the UK is set to launch with a range of seven frozen meals with free delivery DTC.

Pep Kitchen is a startup founded by chefs Joe Coulter and Ben MacAndrews. The duo met whilst working together in a French Restaurant in Covent Garden and also worked together running busy food trucks in London’s street food scene. Their menu is heavily influenced by their experiences.

The menu comprises Jerk Sweet Potato Curry, Mexican Chipotle Bean Stew, Spicy Szechuan Mapo Tofu, North African Harissa Hotpot, Gunpowder Roots & Dhal, Mung Bean Moussaka and Jackfruit Massaman. Meals need to be ordered in batches of six, cost £5.75 each, are one serving each and can be heated up in under ten minutes.

In keeping with the company ethos on sustainability, the deliveries are carbon neutral and all of the packaging is either compostable, recyclable or returnable for reuse.

The website for Pep Kitchen states that the company is pro freezing as this allows them to cook food and maintain its goodness without the use of artificial additives for preservation.

It goes on to say: “We love our food – and we weren’t satisfied with what was on offer in the market, especially for people who aren’t strictly vegan but want to cut down on their meat intake. So, we said; let’s give this a go ourselves and make plant-based food people will genuinely enjoy!”
