UK – Greene King Flaming Grill Offers Vegan Fish and Chips

The British pub and restaurant chain “Greene King Flaming Grill” is now offering vegan fish steaks from the company VBites due to the growing demand for plant-based products. The company is thus creating a vegan “fish and chips” alternative, which is now offered at over 140 locations throughout the country.

The vegan fish steak from VBites is fried at Greene King Flaming Grill and served with capers, lemon slices, fresh herbs and English-style “chips” (Pommes Frites).

The fish steaks on offer are made from vegetable flakes and covered with crispy breadcrumbs to come as close as possible to the British classic. The main component of the vegan fish is a mixture of konjac flour, tapioca starch and other plant-based ingredients to produce a very authentic structure and consistency. The product is also Halal and Kosher certified.

Unlike pubs like “The Blacksmith & Toffeemaker”, Greene King Flaming Grill is not a purely vegan chain, but is now offering the vegan “Fish and Chips” in response to customers’ growing demand for vegan alternatives.

“Meat reducers and flexitarians can now enjoy the legendary, traditional fish and chips with a clear conscience when they order Britain’s first truly sustainable ‘fish’ made exclusively from plant-based ingredients,” the company said in a press release.

VBites is the leading manufacturer of vegan meat, fish and dairy products in the UK. The company offers over 100 products, which are distributed in a total of 18 European countries and other selected locations all over the world. VBites has been named the UK’s most ethical food supplier ten times and is known for its commitment to using only natural, genetically unmodified plant-based ingredients and not adding hydrogenated fats or artificial colourings to its products.

Last year, the company announced that it will expand into Austria, Hungary and Slovenia due to increasing demand for plant-based alternatives.
