USA: Beyond Burger to be Available at Universities

Starting in the autumn, there will be more healthy, plant-based foods and meals available to students at American universities. Amongst other things, the vegan Beyond Burger will be added to the menus in canteens. The service provider Aramark, which is active in the areas of catering and service management, will be responsible for this.

With its “Healthy for Life 20 by 20” program, in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA), Aramark wants to introduce more plant-based and heart-healthy foods in the canteens of American universities. This includes burgers with plant-based patties from the Californian brand Beyond Meat. These will be available under the name “All American Beyond Burger”, initially for a limited time.

Some vegetarian and vegan dishes are already being served by the leading caterer. 30 percent of its main dishes are plant-based and are available to around three million students at 500 locations. A study by Aramark showed that 79 percent of the young people of Generation Z are interested in reducing their meat consumption. The service provider is therefore aiming to meet this demand with further plant-based alternatives such as the Beyond Burger.

Besides university cafeterias, vegan food is also increasingly available in the canteens of large companies.
