Danish potato starch producer KMC has signed a new distribution agreement with UK-based Daymer Ingredients to increase the availability of its clean-label and specialty starch products within the British food manufacturing sector.
Under the agreement, Daymer will distribute KMC’s native potato starches, with plans to expand the offering to include modified and functional starches tailored for specific industrial food applications. The collaboration is expected to support manufacturers seeking plant-based and allergen-free alternatives to traditional animal-derived ingredients such as eggs, gelatine, and dairy proteins.
A natural fit for UK growth
According to Adam Shaw, KMC’s country manager for the UK and Ireland, the agreement will help the company establish a stronger presence in the region. “When the opportunity arose to engage with Daymer Ingredients, it was a natural fit for us. Daymer will initially focus on our native clean label potato starch solutions, but we plan to soon extend the relationship to our specialised and modified potato starches, leveraging Daymer’s considerable expertise in these areas,” he said.

Founded as a cooperative of Danish starch-potato farmers, KMC has supplied potato-based ingredients to over 80 countries for more than nine decades. In recent years, the company has focused on scaling production through investments in agricultural practices and factory upgrades, with particular attention to plant-based and climate-conscious food systems.
Daymer Ingredients, headquartered in the UK, works with manufacturers to supply ingredients that support transparent labelling and functional performance. The company has a portfolio that prioritises environmental considerations and nutritional value, working with suppliers aligned with these principles.
Shift toward plant-based reformulation
The UK food sector continues to experience rising demand for reformulated products that can meet both regulatory and consumer expectations around sustainability, allergen management, and label clarity. Plant-based product development in particular has created demand for functional ingredients capable of replacing traditional components without compromising texture or performance.

Replacing animal-derived ingredients
KMC’s potato-derived starches are positioned as a direct replacement for several animal-based ingredients. Beyond replacing functional proteins, they also play a role in texture management and water retention across multiple categories, including bakery, dairy alternatives, ready meals, and meat analogues.
James Brace, managing director of Daymer Ingredients, noted the alignment in both companies’ approaches: “We are excited to collaborate with KMC, a company that shares our dedication to innovation, quality and sustainability. Their industry-leading potato-based ingredients offer a fresh approach that balances innovation with real world food industry needs.”
