Ankerbrot GmbH & Co KG is one of the leading manufacturers of bakery products in Austria. This traditional company, which was founded in Vienna in 1891, has proven that tradition and modernity can go very well together.. The result is their first all-Vegan store. In a quick interview with Managing Director Lydia Gepp, we talked about this Vegan development.
How has the first Vegan branch been received?
Our Vegan branch has been very well received by the Vegan community. We are very pleased with the wide acceptance of the new concept, even though Vegans, our primary target group – are naturally a smaller market than we are used to.
Are you planning to open more Vegan branches?
Not at present, there are no further Vegan-orientated branches planned for 2018.
How is the Vegan range developing in your other stores?
In general, our Vegan products have been very well received by our customers. Many Non-Vegans have already tried our Vegan delicacies and enjoyed them. All in all, our Vegan range has a stable share in Anker’s total sales.
What new Vegan products are planned for the near future?
We are constantly working on new product ideas and always consider the Vegan angle. However t is not always possible for us to make a Vegan alternative. However, where possible, we are happy to develop Vegan recipes. One example is our Strudel, which is now free of animal products
