Good cheese doesn’t depend upon dairy milk as a resource, and this is demonstrated by “Dairy-Free Down Under” – an innovative and family-owned company from Australia who produce cheese alternatives on premium ingredients like cashews, to ensure finest quality. With their gluten-free, GMO free and non-dairy products, they also have huge plans for expanding around the world, as they told us in our exclusive interview.
How large is your company’s current product portfolio?
The Dairy-Free Down Under product range currently boasts nine products – and growing! At present we manufacture and produce: Mozzarella Style Sheds, Cheddar Style Sheds, Cheddar Style Slices, Mozzarella Style Slices, Cheddar Style Block, Cashew Cream Cheese, Cashew Parmesan Cheese, Mayo Style and Aioli Style.
We are excited to bring more dairy-free products to our range in the coming months. Keep your eyes peeled! For more information on the Dairy-Free Down Under products please visit our page.
How did the launch of your “Dairy-Free Down Under” go?
After three years of research and development, we launched Dairy-Free Down Under in March 2018. Since then, we have grown tenfold reflecting the demand for dairy-free and vegan products in Australia.
What were the biggest surprises and obstacles during and after launching?
The biggest surprise since launching was the reaction on and the demand for our products. We’re stocked nationally in Australia with international interest growing everyday. This reflects the demand for dairy-free and vegan products. With dietary restrictions now becoming the norm, inclusivity and respecting that everyone is unique is more important than ever for the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
You will be soon available at Costco. Are there plans for further expansion – nationally and internationally?
There are certainly plans for further expansion both nationally and internationally. This will be a slow process and something we will take step-by-step.
Are there any new product developments planned for 2018/2019?
There are certainly more new and exciting products in development. We will be launching these products in 2018. Stay tuned!
Vegetarians, Vegans, Flexitarians & people with intolerances – How do you assess the target group and its development in the coming years?
We’re very in tune with our customer and stockist feedback, which is vital to Dairy-Free Down Under’s success. This feedback certainly provides us with great insight into product development and where we need to focus our attention next.
Where do you see your company in five years?
We would like to keep adding new innovative dairy-free alternatives to the Dairy-Free Down Under product range. We would also like to see our products stocked in a wide range of grocers across Australia and overseas to make it an easy choice. We would love to see Dairy-Free Down Under become a house-hold name both in Australia and internationally.
