The Raging Pig Co Secures Funds to Expand the “Best Plant-Based Pork Imaginable” to More Locations

Germany’s the Raging Pig Co, a startup reinventing pork products with plants, has completed its seed financing round for an undisclosed amount.

Sprout & About Ventures and Solvable Syndicate, both family offices focusing on food tech, the VC Livian, and various business angels participated.

“With fresh funds, Raging Pig is more than ready to do their wurst”

The funds will be used for product development and to accelerate the company’s market presence to become a leading provider of plant-based sausages in Germany. The company also announces that it will be food partner at this year’s Bits & Pretzels conference, serving Raging Sausage treats.

“With fresh funds, Raging Pig is more than ready to do their wurst in providing even more customers with the best plant-based pork imaginable!” the startup shared on social media.

Pork-reinvented

The Raging Pig Co is a food tech startup based in Hamburg, co-founded in 2022 by Dr. Arne Ewerbeck and Constantin Klass. The team develops and distributes pork alternative products and is on a mission to remove millions of pigs from the food system.

The EU is the world’s second-biggest pork producer after China and the largest exporter of pork and pork products. Germany, Spain, and France are the main producing countries and together represent half of the EU’s total production. According to The Raging Pig Co, in 2023 alone, almost 44 million pigs were slaughtered in Germany.

The brand’s product lineup features German Bratwurst and their signature Raging Bacon — “the pig-less bacon that even your dad will love” — along with this year’s new additions: smoked sausage, mini grilled sausages, and curry sausage. All products are made from a blend of peas and mushrooms and a proprietary fat encapsulation tech and are said to deliver a meaty consistency and authentic taste.

The company’s products are available in the food service sector, from snack bars to festival venues to traditional pubs. Raging Pig has stated that it collaborates closely with gastronomy partners to prioritize simplicity and versatility in using their products.

Apart from pubs and festivals, the broadcasting organization Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) serves its plant-based pork products in its canteens in Hamburg. And, in a unique collaboration with the German company Kynda , the startup crafted and served burgers featuring a new zero-waste mycelium ingredient at Internorga trade fair in Hamburg, earlier this year.

“A very much-needed change”

The Raging Pig Co is known for its bold, eye-catching branding that’s impossible to ignore. Dr. Arne mentioned in an interview with vegconomist that the food sector has not embraced the power of brands as it has in, for example, the fashion industry.

“We believe that the very much-needed change in our current food system to a more sustainable and climate-friendly way is way too important to not be loud about it! That’s exactly what we are showcasing with our products and brand.”
