Emerging Health Ingredients 2017 – 2026

A new study has been published by Transparency Market Research (TMR) regarding the international market for health ingredients, which is expected to register 6.1% CAGR between 2017 and 2026 and to reach a value of US$ 123,434.6 million by the end of this period.

TMR point out, in this study published on 30th July, that protein is expected to experience substantial growth in the stated period. It cites that protein-rich ingredients are beneficial for health in a variety of ways such as for stabilising blood sugar and in the support of proper nutrient absorption. As such, products containing beans, nuts and seeds are of more interest to the health-conscious consumer.

The study describes that the rise in use of natural products is driving the demand for plant-based ingredients, and that the rapid rise of veganism is leading to a steady growth in the increase of production in such products.

The food and beverages industry report that, due to increasing awareness in health-related issues, and conversely a surge in certain diseases, health food ingredients are being utilised on a mass scale. Demand for health-promoting food and drinks, especially those created from plants, are being pushed by manufacturers to help “lifestyle diseases” but the growth in food allergies around the world, is on the other hand, leading to the elimination of some of these health ingredients.

TMR found that more and more people are experiencing deficiencies in their diets, and as such the demand for products rich in vitamins, minerals and protein, is rising globally. It states that the functional food industry has experienced the fastest growth in recent years; this group includes products fortified with vitamins and minerals, such as fortified shakes, cereals and breads which have increased in popularity. It is noted by the report that research is currently being carried out to introduce such ingredients from natural sources such as plants and fruits.
