Vegan Beauty Brand Plum Receives Funding From Unilever

Pureplay Skin Sciences Ltd, who sells beauty products under the brand Plum, has raised a Series A funding from Unilever Ventures, the venture capital arm of the controversial mega-conglomerate, and world’s biggest consumer goods company.

Plum is a 100% vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand based in India. Founded in 2013 by Shankar Prasad, who studied chemical engineering and previously worked for Hindustan Unilever, Plum claims to be India’s first 100% vegan beauty brand, combining science with sustainability. The funding will help the company to scale up their operations, both online and offline.

“Unilever Ventures’ global presence and expertise would be of immense value in this partnership,” commented Prasad.
