Belgium’s Bolder Foods Launches Cauliflower-Based Cheese at Delhaize

Belgium’s Bolder Foods has announced that its plant-based cheese alternative, Chizou, is launching at 140 Delhaize stores across the country. Made from locally-sourced cauliflower and chickpea protein, the “deliciously creamy” cheese is sold grated in three varieties — Pasta, Pizza, and Tex Mex. Bolder Foods said it chose cauliflower as a key ingredient because it is “naturally nutritious, a melting masterpiece, and the perfect plant for absorbing our delicious natural flavours”. Founders Ilana Taub and Michael Minch-Dixon launched their first venture nine years ago, a snack brand designed to fight food waste. Now, they have shifted their focus to alt-dairy. “Massive Shift” Expected by Delhaize as Belgian Multinational Doubles Plant-Based Offer

Belgian multinational retail giant Delhaize has revealed plans to double its plant-based offering. By 2025, Delhaize wants to increase its offering of plant-based meat and dairy products by 100%, citing an expected mass transition to plant-based food in the near future.  Delhaize currently boasts around 400 plant-based products, but will now increase this to 800 products, including alt meat and dairy.  In the company’s own words, Delhaize wants to start a revolution in the minds of its customers and expects a lot of innovations in the coming years, as first reported by Retail Detail.  60% plant-based protein by 2030 Delhaize has cited the Flemish government’s recent Green Deal as a contributing factor to its increased plant-based offering.
