Swiss Vegan Brands May Be Forced to Remove Meat-Like Terminology From Labels

Eatplanted, the largest Swiss plant-based meat startup, as well as any Swiss vegan brand, could be forced to remove animal meat names on plant-based food packaging labels.   By the end of the year, the Federal Court will decide whether meat alternatives produced in Switzerland can continue to be labelled as plant-based ‘chicken’ or ‘pork.’  The decision would set a precedent not only in Switzerland but also in Europe. A previous ruling in favour SWI reports that in November 2022, the Zurich Administrative Court ruled that animal meat names on plant-based food packaging labelled as “vegan” were not misleading to consumers. Eatplanted, operating as Planted in mainland Europe, announces it has secured its first major listing with a national retailer. Planted Raises £61M in One of Europe’s Largest Alt-Protein Rounds

Switzerland’s Planted has raised £61 million in Series B funding, achieving one of the largest alt-protein rounds ever to take place in Europe. The round was led by private equity firm L Catterton, with participation from existing investors including Vorwerk Ventures, Movendo, and footballer Yann Sommer. Planted will use the funding to accelerate its international growth, expand its product range, and build another production site. Planted produces whole-cut plant-based meats using ingredients such as peas, oats, and sunflower. Switzerland’s Eat Planted reveals that it has doubled its production capacity following investment into its site in Kemptthal, Switzerland.  The startup says this signifies that it is “fast becoming the largest and most modern production facility for plant-based meat” in Europe.
