Chinese Alt Chicken Brand Haofood Rolls out into 2,300 Lawson Stores

China’s peanut-based chicken brand Haofood has announced a new retail partnership with leading Chinese convenience store Lawson. Haofood’s new vegan satay nugget on a stick product is now available for retail at over 2,300 Lawson stores across China. To be sold initially at Lawson stores in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces, Haofood will leverage Lawson’s market experience to accelerate its retail strategy and product availability throughout China. The move comes at a time when China’s millennials are embracing flexitarian, vegetarian and vegan diets in record numbers, according to the brand’s research. Haofood Raises $3.5M for Peanut-Based Chicken Alternative

China’s Haofood has completed a seed funding round where it raised $3.5 million for its peanut-based chicken alternative. Participants included Monde Nissin CEO Henry Soesanto, ProVeg International, and Big Idea Ventures. The female-led startup plans to use the funding to diversify its channel sales strategy and advance its R&D infrastructure facility. The new facility will enable Haofood to increase and expand its product range, allowing the company to grow its business both domestically and abroad. Haofood’s existing products are already used by over 50 brands across China, including several restaurants, and expansion to other Asian countries is planned. Haofood’s Pioneering Peanut-Based Chicken Today Launches Into Shanghai Restaurants

Haofood, a graduate of the fifth ProVeg Incubator programme, is pioneering the usage of peanut protein as a key ingredient in plant-based meat, using its own proprietary extrusion technology and formulation.
