JULIENNE BRUNO Raises £5M to Make Vegan Cheeses “First Choice, Not Alternatives”

London-based vegan cheese producer JULIENNE BRUNO has announced a £5 million funding round led by Cherry Ventures. The brand says it will use the funding to expand and work towards its wider ambition of transforming the food industry. The goal is to create cheeses that consumers choose because of their quality, not because they are dairy-free; in the company’s words, products that are the “first choice, not alternatives”. Collection 01 Last year, JULIENNE BRUNO raised £1 million in a seed funding round led by Seedcamp. These funds were used to develop the brand’s Collection 01, which features three cheeses — Burrella, Crematta, and Superstraccia. UK: What Influenced Vegans to Convert in 2020 and What are Their Newby Concerns?

A new study by health food chain Holland & Barrett demonstrates some statistics behind the rise of veganism in the UK, revealing that 12% of UK adults (23% of 16-24s) were influenced by the coronavirus outbreak and health concerns arising from it. Here we look at the Google Trends which show their interests and concerns, and which foods they miss the most since turning vegan. Who is converting? A vegan creme egg called The Chuckie Egg, made by UK based chocolatier, Mummy Meagz, is selling out in stores all around the UK in the approach to Easter. One Chuckie Egg was sold at least every 30 seconds at Holland & Barrett since  January, with most stores selling out entirely. Mummy Meagz says its factory working overtime to keep up with demand.

British Health Food Chain Expands its Vegan Range with New Ice Cream

The British company Holland & Barrett, which has a presence in over 16 countries, is joining the large number of manufacturers who have recognised the potential of the plant-based ice cream sector in the face of constantly growing demand. The new product line comprises two coconut-based ice creams in the flavours Peanut Butter and Passionfruit. The third flavour, Salted Caramel, is made from avocado. “Avocado and coconut are perfect alternatives to dairy products, and also have some health benefits,” explains Amy Tolofari, nutritionist for Holland and Barrett. “The buttery texture of the avocado gives the same creaminess as regular ice cream, but without animal ingredients.” Further growing vegan range planned The announcement of the new product line follows a series of steps taken by the …
