WK Kellogg Co. Unveils First 100% Plant-Based Cereal After Split From Kellogg’s

Today, WK Kellogg Co. launched its first new cereal since its independent formation after a split from Kellogg’s in October of last year. The 100% plant-based cereal line, “Eat Your Mouth Off,” will be available at retailers across the United States starting this month. WK Kellogg Co’s brand portfolio includes the full range of cereals that Kellogg’s is known for, including Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, and more. Notably, many of Kellogg’s popular cereals include vitamin D sourced from lanolin, a derivative of sheep’s wool. Despite thousands of signatures on a petition urging the company to switch to plant-based vitamins, Kellogg’s has not completely phased out lanolin. However, the introduction of Eat Your Mouth Off aligns with WK Kellogg Co’s strategy to …

MorningStar Farms’ New Steakhouse Style Burger Targets Omnivores

MorningStar Farms, a plant-based subsidiary of Kellogg, is introducing its latest plant-based offering, the Steakhouse Style Burger, in a move to cater to the taste preferences of omnivores. This product launch comes at a time when the plant-based burger market is seemingly saturated with options, sparking queries about the decision to add another contender to the mix. Yet, with traditional meat consumers constituting a significant portion of plant-based protein purchasers, MorningStar Farms has designed the Steakhouse Style Burger to mimic the taste and texture of real meat. Joe Beauprez, senior director of marketing, frozen foods at MorningStar Farms, explains, “We know shoppers have been seeking a premium plant-based burger option – something that’s already seasoned and truly tastes like meat, but with prep simple enough …

MorningStar Farms Drops Incogmeato Burger, Will Continue to “Innovate” Plant-Based Line

Kellogg reveals it is discontinuing the Incogmeato Burger, a part of its MorningStar Farms line of plant-based foods, reports Food Dive. The company will continue to sell its other Incogmeato offerings, including Chik’n Nuggets, Tenders and breakfast items.  The move comes two months after Kellogg halted plans to divide its operations and spin off its plant-based unit into a separate company. In February 2023, the company announced it had changed course and would retain its plant-based operations, predicting a “shakeout” in the category: “When we began this process, valuation for peer companies were stratospheric compared to where they are today,” Kellogg Chief Executive Steven Cahillane said at the time. “We see an imminent shakeout coming. It’s happening already. And there’ll be a couple of players …

Morningstar Farms Joins with Pringles to Debut ‘First-Of-Its-Kind’ Plant-Based Chik’n Fries, Unveils Egg Bites

Less than a week after announcing it would strategically retain its plant-based foods business, Kellogg appears to be doubling down on its alt-protein investment. Morningstar Farms now collaborates with potato chip maker Pringles, also a Kellogg brand, to launch “first-of-its-kind” vegan Chik’n Fries. The plant-based brand will also debut a new breakfast item, Breakfast Bites with Vegan Egg and Cheeze, in the US later this year.  Described as fry-shaped, dippable finger food,  MorningStar Farms Chik’n Fries will be available in two varieties: Original, which combines notes of chicken broth flavor with Pringles’ signature potato-crisp taste, and Scorchin’ Cheddar Cheeze. According to Morningstar, the 100% plant-based Chik’n Fries are golden on the outside, juicy on the inside and offer 11 grams of protein per serving. Both flavors can …

Kellogg Aborts Plans to Drop Plant-Based Operations: “We See an Imminent Shakeout Coming”

Last June, Kellogg Co announced plans to divide its operations into three separate businesses — North American cereal, snacks, and plant-based foods — with the new Plant Co. division to be anchored by the MorningStar Farms brand. In a strategic U-turn, the global conglomerate has today revealed that it will instead retain its plant-based-food operations. There’ll be a couple of players left standing In its Q4 result statement Kellogg states: “The company continues to work towards its previously announced spin-off of its North America cereal business by year-end. After exploring strategic options, the company has decided to retain its plant-based business, which represents 2% of net sales and offers strong long-term growth prospects.” “When we began this process, valuation for peer companies were stratospheric compared …
