Propel Foods is Developing AI-Powered Plant Proteins Backed by Mexican Government

After winning the Hult Prize 2021, with a proposal to help local communities and the environment with alternative foods, Joel González, Sofía Hillman, and Jayat González received a US $150K prize which they used to fund their startup Propel Foods. Based in Mexico City, Propel Foods is an AI-powered startup that creates plant-based and hybrid-protein foods. The company says it combines the best of the vegetable and animal worlds in foods that are good for your health, delicious to eat, and good for the planet’s health.  Propel Foods commented in an interview: “Since we won the prize, we have continued turning our idea into a viable business. RIP Foods Secures €625K to Accelerate Growth in Spanish Food Service

The Spanish plant-based meat startup RIP Foods recently announced it has closed a €625K pre-seed funding round led by Ship2B Ventures.  The funds will increase restaurant sales and double the company’s team to 20 employees by the end of the year. Launching products for retail and closing deals with major supermarkets are also among the company’s plans. RIP (Rich in Plants) was founded in 2021 in Barcelona. It is focused on developing plant-based chicken alternatives for the HORECA channel (foodservice). In January 2022, RIP launched two vegan chicken gyozas flavours, using its Meatrix formula, which it claims encapsulates fats and mimics meat to perfection. Nowadays to Launch Whole Cuts and Tenders Created by Ex Wendy’s & Popeyes’ Developer

Nowadays, a San Francisco plant-based meat brand focused on making junk food healthy, announces the launch of its new whole-cut cutlets and tenders in the US market will take place in early 2023. The cutlets and tenders were created by the company’s recently hired Director of Product Development Chris Johnson, who was a former product developer at Wendy’s and Popeyes. A new vegan tuna fish product has been developed by Mimic Seafood, a startup based in Spain. Tunato is a 100% vegetable food that is said to imitate tuna in appearance, texture and taste. Tunato is already available at the Ametller Origen Commons Restaurant in Barcelona’s World Trade Centre and it will reportedly be soon available in other sushi restaurant chains.
