Otis Announces Opening of “First of Its Kind” Oat Milk Facility in New Zealand

New Zealand brand Otis has announced the opening of a new oat milk facility described as the “first of its kind” in East Auckland. The purpose-built plant will produce Otis’ milk alternatives using premium South Island oats. It took Otis almost five years to establish the facility, which is owned by beverage co-manufacturer Free Flow Manufacturing. This culminated in an 18-month project that used New Zealand, German, and Swedish food technology to create a world-class plant. Enzyme technology developed by Angie Triantafyllou, former Oatly owner and now Chairman of the Board at Cerealiq, is used to produce the oat milk to a “gold standard”. Free Flow Manufacturing to Open “New Zealand’s First Dedicated Alt Milk Facility”

New Zealand beverage manufacturer Free Flow Manufacturing is planning to open what it claims is the country’s first dedicated alt milk facility later this year. The plant will be able to produce 50 million litres of milk alternatives per year, including for New Zealand’s first oat milk brand, Otis. Currently, Otis uses oats that are grown in New Zealand, but has to ship them to Sweden for processing due to a lack of suitable facilities locally. Described as “one of the world’s most technically advanced plant-based milk manufacturing facilities”, the new plant will see Free Flow’s footprint expand with 2,500 square metres of production space and an extra 4,000 square metres of warehousing.
