Plant & Bean Opens New Plant-Based Meat Facility in Thailand

In 2021, Innobic (the life sciences arm of Thai state-owned energy company PTT) joined forces with plant-based food importer Nove Foods to form a joint venture called Nutra Regenerative Protein Co (NRPT). The new company then made an agreement with the UK’s Plant & Bean to establish a plant-based meat facility in Ayutthaya, with NRPT providing 51% of the investment and Plant & Bean providing the remaining 49%. The facility — which has a production capacity of 25,000 tons and is claimed to be Thailand’s first dedicated plant protein factory — appears to have recently opened. Heather Mills Saves Plant & Bean Facility From Administration

UK alt meat manufacturer Plant & Bean (P&B) has been saved at the eleventh hour after it was bought from administration by plant-based entrepreneur Heather Mills. Plant & Bean operates a 125,000-square-foot site in Boston, Lincolnshire, which was described as “Europe’s largest” alt meat facility when it first opened in 2020. The site produces meat alternatives for brands such as Quorn and Wicked Kitchen. However, P&B ran into difficulties earlier this year due to increases in food and energy prices, along with a lack of investment. The manufacturer appointed administrators on May 31. Mills, who is the founder of plant-based group VBites, has now acquired the facility and equipment for an undisclosed sum. Plant & Bean Calls in Administrators After Experiencing Rising Operational Costs

Despite growing demand for plant-based meat, UK manufacturer Plant & Bean appointed administrators on the 31st of May, 2023. In a statement, financial advisory business Interpath Advisory said that Plant & Bean experienced significant inflation across its cost base, primarily increases in food and energy prices.  The financial company also stated that the manufacturer also suffered from several operational issues, resulting in periodic interruptions to production. Manufacturing plant-based food Founded in 2019, and headquartered in Lincolnshire, UK, Plant & Bean is a collaborative venture between Brecks Foods’ meat-free division in the UK and NR Instant PCL (NRF), a stock exchange-listed specialty food producer based in Thailand.  The company received a Series A investment of £9 million from NRF in 2019.
