Burger King CEO: Meat Items Will Be Dropped, Menu Will be 50% Plant-Based Within Nine Years

Following the news that McDonald’s has entered into a three year agreement with Beyond Meat for the upcoming full range of products under the McPlant menu; Burger King UK’s CEO Alasdair Murdoch yesterday reported to i News that BK will gradually drop meat products from the menu and introduce more meat-free options to the point where half of the menu will be plant-based by 2030. Murdoch stated that the previously discontinued Rebel Whopper would reappear on menus in the UK and there will be new vegan and vegetarian dishes including a plant-based Royale burger and meat-free nuggets. Burger King: Vegans “Were Unreasonably Ignorant in Failing to Inquire About the Cooking Method of Their Food”

The Rebel Whopper continues to cause controversy on both sides of the Atlantic. Here we update on the Florida lawsuit where BK has now asked the judge to dismiss the fraud claim as vegans “were unreasonably ignorant,” and  meanwhile in the UK, The Advertising Standards Authority receives complaints that BK’s advertising is misleading.

Burger King Stockholm’s Blind Test Invites Swedes to Guess if Their Order is Plant-Based or Meat

Burger King Sweden recently launched two new plant-based burgers – a vegan version of the Whopper called the Rebel Whopper and a vegan chicken option called Rebel Chicken King. And BK is so confident that the new options taste just like meat that they are inviting customers to a 50 / 50 blind test to see if they can taste the difference.
