Rebellyous Foods Partners with Chicago Schools to Serve Plant-Based Chicken for National Nutrition Month

Chicago Public Schools (CPS), one of the United States’ largest school districts, has partnered with Rebellyous Foods to serve plant-based chicken and waffles in approximately 100 of its schools. This initiative, which started in March to coincide with National Nutrition Month, utilizes Rebellyous Foods’ plant-based chicken products to expand the nutritional and sustainable options available to students. Illinois has implemented initiatives that support the adoption of plant-based menu options in schools. In 2022, the state announced a bill (House Bill 4089), which mandated that all the state’s school districts would need to provide plant-based meals on request that met federal nutrition guidelines. Rebellyous Foods Calls on Food Facilities to Revolutionize Plant-Based Chicken Prices with Mock 2

Rebellyous Foods, a Seattle-based startup working to make plant-based chicken affordable, raised $9.5 million last February to build Mock 2, a production system that is said to be capable of producing plant-based meat at 60% lower cost than all available methods.  The food tech, which has recently unveiled the technology, now announces that it is accepting proposals (RFP) from USDA or FDA food facilities to install and operate the production system to make its plant-based chicken and potentially other companies’ products, starting in early Spring 2024.   Mock 2 consists of a fully continuous, automated, and chilled dough system that is said to improve and simplify the mix-and-form process, thus saving electricity and labor resources. According to the food tech, it can produce from 2,500 to 3,700 pounds per hour, with the …

Rebellyous Foods Partners with Vizient to Expand Plant-Based Options in Healthcare Facilities

Seattle-based food manufacturing technology company Rebellyous Foods has secured a significant distribution contract with Vizient, a group purchasing organization representing the healthcare sector and various educational institutions. Under this agreement, Vizient’s extensive public sector customer base, totaling an annual purchasing volume of $130 billion, gains access to a range of Rebellyous Foods’ plant-based chicken products. The company’s vegan nuggets, tenders, and patties are free from cholesterol, antibiotics, and hormones. Furthermore, Rebellyous’ K-12 products adhere to the USDA standards for meat alternate credits in the National School Lunch Program. As the new school year approaches, plant-based chicken company Rebellyous Foods expands its reach, with more schools choosing its products. According to the Seattle company, this traction is part of a growing school movement in the USA to provide more plant-based options. Sentient Ventures Invests £2M In Female-Founded Companies Disrupting the Food System

UK-based impact fund Sentient Ventures has announced its first three investments — all into female-founded companies. A combined £2 million has been invested into dairy-free cheesemonger La Fauxmagerie, vegan pizza chain Purezza, and plant-based chicken brand Rebellyous. It comes as figures suggest that female-founded companies are chronically underfunded, receiving just 1p of every £1 of venture funding in the UK. Male founder teams get 89p, while mixed-gender teams get 10p. La Fauxmagerie Founded by sisters Charlotte and Rachel Stevens, La Fauxmagerie claims to be the UK’s first plant-based cheesemonger. The co-founders report that the investment has allowed them to “aggressively scale our manufacturing division and build our team”, leading to a listing at 104 Waitrose supermarkets. Puvin is a chemical engineer with experience in food and fine chemical process and equipment design, development, pilot scaleup, and technology transfer for commercial manufacturing.
