“Historic Achievement” as Remilk Receives Regulatory Approval for Animal-Free Milk Protein

Remilk has become the first company ever to receive regulatory approval for animal-free milk protein from the Israeli Ministry of Health. Described as a “historic achievement”, the approval will allow products made with Remilk proteins to be sold to Israeli consumers. Remilk to Receive Israel’s First Market Approval For a Cell Ag Protein

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that an Israeli food tech startup was about to receive the green light to produce animal-free milk proteins, reports The Times of Israel. The PM did not name which food tech company would receive Israel’s first market approval for a cellular agriculture protein in the coming days. However, Tech12 reported Remilk as the permit receiver. Founded in 2019, Remilk has raised over $120 million since its establishment. The company leverages precision fermentation and microbes to produce milk proteins, claiming they are chemically identical to those found in cow’s milk. These microbial proteins can make animal-free dairy without lactose, cholesterol, growth hormones, and antibiotics. Animal-free cream cheese startup Bold Cultr has suddenly closed its doors, the company announced yesterday, following a “difficult” decision by parent company General Mills to deprioritize its funding.  Revealing the news to fans on social media, Bold Cultr stated it began as a unique startup launched by G-Works, General Mills’ corporate venture studio, which was created to solve food-related consumer problems through experimental innovation. Remilk raises $120 million as part of its mission to “reimagine the dairy industry”. Israeli startup Remilk, which is developing cultivated milk proteins without the cow, has raised $120 million in an oversubscribed Series B funding round. The round was led by Hanaco Ventures, with participation from Precision Capital, Rage Capital, CPT Capital, and more. Remilk says it will use the funding to scale production of its dairy-identical proteins, so that manufacturers can begin using them in products such as cheese and ice cream.
