RIP Foods Closes its Doors After Four Years, “It Was David Vs Goliath”

Barcelona-based RIP Foods, a B2B plant-based meat startup for foodservice, announces its closure after four years of operations.  Kevin Forssmann, the company’s founder, told vegconomist that “despite creating one of the best plant-based meats in the market,” financial difficulties and the inability to secure further funding played a significant role in the company’s closure. He said, “Unfortunately, our space requires funding, and most investors in our space are after IP’s.” RIP (Rich in Plants) started in 2021, offering plant-based chicken mince developed with a fat encapsulation process claimed to mimic the taste and mouthfeel of meat. Initially targeting the HORECA channel supplying chicken mince, the startup switched to ready-to-cook products due to chef demand. RIP Foods Secures €625K to Accelerate Growth in Spanish Food Service

The Spanish plant-based meat startup RIP Foods recently announced it has closed a €625K pre-seed funding round led by Ship2B Ventures.  The funds will increase restaurant sales and double the company’s team to 20 employees by the end of the year. Launching products for retail and closing deals with major supermarkets are also among the company’s plans. RIP (Rich in Plants) was founded in 2021 in Barcelona. It is focused on developing plant-based chicken alternatives for the HORECA channel (foodservice). In January 2022, RIP launched two vegan chicken gyozas flavours, using its Meatrix formula, which it claims encapsulates fats and mimics meat to perfection. RIP Foods Launches First Plant-Based Gyoza on the Spanish Foodservice Market

RIP Foods, a new Spanish plant-based startup, has entered the market with what it claims is the first plant-based gyoza in Spain exclusively for foodservice. RIP, which stands for Rich in Plants, states that the 100% vegan gyozas follow a traditional recipe mixed with the startup’s proprietary Meatrix system.  Barcelona-based RIP Foods reveals that the plant-based gyozas will be available for restaurants and delivery in two versions: Chinese chicken and cabbage or chicken curry. The release is the second from the up-and-coming brand, following RIP Chicken earlier this year.
